ABOUT MAKER’s JUBILEE

Thimblepress’s 2nd Annual Maker’s Jubilee is a free, one-day event that will take place Saturday, November 12, 2016 10:00am-6:00pm.  Come hang with us in and around our studio 113 N. State Street Jackson, MS 39201 in downtown Jackson!

This event is our Holiday Kickoff Market, celebrating artists and talents from our own city and state!  We want to bring more people to downtown Jackson to share and promote how great our downtown is!  We were so amazed at the support and turnout from our community last year that we’ve decided to do it again! We love interacting with our customers and celebrating the talent in our home state of Mississippi.  This time of year bring so much excitement and holiday cheer!  We hope you’ll stop by!

This holiday season, let’s all make an effort  to shop and support our local communities and the makers that make our communities special and unique! It’s sure to be a great time!

HISTORY

Thimblepress founder and owner, Kristen Ley,   launched the first ever  Maker’s Makin’ Jubilee last year (November 2015) as a way of celebrating  Mississippi makers, bringing people to downtown, and kicking-off holiday shopping. The first year was a fun, little event hosted at Thimblepress’s downtown studio and featured a dozen amazing artists and vendors. The response was positive (despite a torrential rainstorm all day!), and we’ve decided to keep it going – with a goal of  growing it bigger and bigger each year.

At Maker’s Jubilee, shoppers can purchase amazing handmade gifts, meet local artists, enjoy food-trucks, and expect high-quality affordable products. Last year, artists included CatCall CollectiveKate Freeman,  Sunday Rookery,  Deep South PopsD+P Design BuildLolady FashionPrickly Hippie, Cristina Leis Calligraphy, Samara Thomas, and  more!  Check out a recap of last year’s event here!

MAKER’s JUBILEE FAQ’S

How many vendors will be featured this year?
This year, we hope to  feature 20-30 Mississippi exhibitors – showcasing and selling handmade goods.

Do I have to be based in Mississippi to participate?
Yes. All vendors must reside in Mississippi.

Who can Apply?
Any Mississippi artist!  Whether you’re an established artist or just getting started, we encourage you to apply! The intention of our event is to bring a unique shopping experience to our community while giving a place for Mississippi- based artists and crafters to exhibit their work. We are looking for diverse crafts (For example: popular categories like jewelry makers, paper goods, and screen printers must offer something unique in order to distinguish themselves.)

How can I apply to be in the show?
Online applications will be accepted October 13-25, 2016.

If I’m accepted, is there a booth fee?
Yes, there’s a small, $50 booth fee.  Each vendor will be  required to provide his/her own tents, tables, chairs, displays, art and any additional supplies needed for sale of their products.  Thimblepress will ONLY be providing space.  Also, keep in mind, this is an OUTDOOR festival.

What types of products are you looking for?
Our event is designed to offer high-quality, affordable, hand-crafted goods and wares. Last year, our vendor products included letterpressed prints, paper goods,  paintings, jewelry, kids and baby tees, mobiles, local honey, calligraphy art prints, and  furniture. When do we find out if we made it into the show?
Applicants will be notified by October 27,  2016  via email.

How will  vendors chosen?
All applications will be carefully reviewed and curated by our small, in-house staff. We’re a friendly and creative group who have a love for all things handcrafted and independently designed.   Because we’re expecting to receive several applications from a  talented pool of applicants,  we will take variety of things into consideration including quality of handmade products, a cohesive look and feel, overall appeal, past displays, an enthusiasm and passion for what the artists is doing. We love highlighting emerging artists and crafters.  We encourage all Mississippi Makers to apply!

What is your refund policy?

If you are accepted into Maker’s Makin’ Jubilee and are  suddenly unable to attend, you  must notify us before November 5, 2016 to receive a refund of your $50 booth fee.    We require adequate notice if you are unable to participate  in order to find a new vendor from our waiting list to take your place and to compensate for the costs associated with marketing and promoting each of our talented vendors. In the event that The Maker’s Jubilee is cancelled, all  fees will be refunded.
