Mississippi Monday | Bogue Chitto River

Friday, our Thimble-team rose early and caravanned it to McComb, MS to tube + kayak the Bogue Chitto River (which we now affectionately refer to as the Bag-of-Cheetos River) for some good old fashion team bonding. Today, for MS Monday, we thought we'd share a few snapshots of our travels along with a recap and details on how you can take this river ride too!

We started our trip from a tubing-kayak-canoe rental shop called Gator's on the Bogue Chitto River, which offers 3 different river routes with approximate float times of 2, 5 and 7 hour- we took the 5 hour tour running from the Holmesville Bridge to the 98 Bridge. The staff loaded up our rental gear and shuttled our group to the drop off point. And at 9:30AM it was already scorching hot, so we were more than happy to jump right in, and the water felt amazing!

We had 6 kayaks and 4 tubes total, and the difference in floating speed made it a little tricky to stay together, but we made a number of stops for snacks and hang time on the sandy shores. The rental biz also gave us tubes and rope to create our own DIY cooler rafts, which we took full advantage of, and in true Thimblepress® spirit we just had to bring along our giant donut float and Band.o Watermelon Cooler Tote to brighten up the ride!

There was lots of laughter, flipped kayaks, critters, screams and sunburns- plenty to go around and we'd definitely call it a group bonding success. Overall it was such an amazing day and we can't wait to do it again. Top recommendations for our readers if you plan to venture down the Bogue Chitto this summer- tons of waterproof sunscreen and water shoes!

Have you been down the Bogue Chitto? What did you think? Leave us a comment below and join in on the conversation, or share another MS adventure spot you know of- who knows where our next Thimble travels might take us!
