Today, for so many kids across the state is their first day back to school! In honor of Back to School season and spreading the love for our community, this Mississippi Monday we are highlighting Magnolia Speech School right here in Jackson, MS, and we're shedding light on ways you can get involved to help these kids get off to a great start this year!
ABOUT MAGNOLIA SPEECH SCHOOL:
MSS is a non-public, special purpose school accredited by both the Mississippi State Department of Education (K to 8th grade) and by the Southern Association of Schools and Colleges. The mission of Magnolia Speech School, Inc. is to enable children with communication disorders (without regard to race, creed or color) to develop their full potential through spoken language and literacy.
Started in Jackson in the 50's as a charter school for children with hearing impairments, MSS has grown to over the last five decades in great strides and provides a wealth of services to children with various hearing and speech impairments and well as language disorders. Each learning program and timeline is customized to the needs of the child with the goal of reintegration to mainstream classrooms. MSS also joins other "Option" auditory/oral programs nationwide in serving children with cochlear implants. In addition, they are one of this country's pioneer programs in coupling sensory integration and classroom instruction.
Though the program is tuition based, a great deal of Magnolia's funding is donor based. This year, Thimblepress® is proud to assist by accepting school supply donations at our Thimblepress® storefront location by way of hand delivery or mail. We'll be compiling all donations and delivering them to MSS in the coming weeks.
