Mississippi Monday | Clark Creek Primitive Trails
Today, we're excited to have Guest Contributor Katie Corley of @themississippiexperience back to share with us on her recent summer adventures to the natural trails and waterfalls of Clark Creek in Woodville, MS!
. . . . .
We started our journey on a slightly warm June morning, the birds were singing all around and there was a slight breeze blowing past us. We had just arrived at Clarks Creek Primitive Trails in Woodville, Mississippi.
According to the State Wildlife Department, there are around 50 waterfalls located on over 700 acres of land here and we wanted to find some of them! Just a heads up, most of the trails do involve walking along the creek bed, so bring some sort of water shoes or just go barefoot. After a good bit of hiking uphill and downhill, we came across the first waterfall. Here, we were able to wade into the cool water and relax for a bit. In fact, we found this waterfall to be the most fun to play in. You can even go behind the falls, just be careful on the wet rock!
The second waterfall we reached was just as lovely as the first. Getting to the actual falls here was the hard part. Derrick went over the creek at the top and made his way down a trail from the side. Otherwise, he would have had to climb over huge boulders and clay to get there.
As we continued along the creek bed, we met a couple covered in clay. After chatting with them, they informed us the clay keeps the horseflies from biting you. At first we were hesitant to cover ourselves in clay, but then the horseflies starting landing on us. Sure enough, the clay remedy worked!
By the end of the day, we had finally circled back to the first waterfall. We had seen a total of seven waterfalls and were ready to call it a day. If you live in Mississippi, this is definitely one place you should go to spend a Saturday!
xx, Katie
