State Flower Collection!
Hey friend and family! Cheers to Wednesday! Today we are bringing you a collection that is near and dear to our hearts! It tugs so deep, because our State Flower Collection was one of the first collections ever made by Kristen Ley when Thimblepress first was born! This collection is one of our top selling collections across the board! So keep reading to find out the whole State Flower Collection Story, words from Kristen, how the collection has evolved and more!

"A few years ago, I was driving through Texas with my family because my Aunt passed away. It was such an intimate time in my life. While I was mourning, grieving and trying to find some sort of beauty on the long highways through Texas, the wildflowers caught my eye. They were stunning, whimsical and full of life. I wanted to know more about these wildflowers; where they all started. How did they get there? What was their meaning? So I started brainstorming!""The idea for the State Flower Collection came from a quote I read when traveling through the beautifully flowered highways in East Texas near Austin. The quote is by Lady Bird Johnson which reads, “Where flowers bloom so does hope.” I found the quote to be truly inspiring and the starting point for the collection. As First Lady, Lady Bird started a beautification project to improve conditions in Washington D.C. by planting millions of flowers. She also was instrumental in promoting the Highway Beautification Act, which sought to beautify the nation’s highway system. What a neat lady!"
Out of inspiration from Lady Birds’ quote, each print comes with a small pouch of wildflower seeds with her quote letterpressed on it. With a dash of wildflower seeds to start, this collection is created to encourage each of us to beautify our communities and neighborhoods with not only flowers, but love. It's kind of like a pay it forward type thing.
"My aunt meant so much to me. When I saw the wildflowers, I felt like she kinda helped facilitate the idea of this collection. She was a big part of my life and her faith was huge, I always appreciated her for that. So I sort of created the State Flower Collection™ in her honor."
Each original illustration of Kristen’s is a marriage of both the state shape and state flower. The color scheme chosen for the series was based around the actual flowers themselves. The yellow prints are all flowers that have a yellow to slight orange color, the red prints are all flowers that fall into the pink to red color, the green prints have flowers that are green and/or white, and the blue prints all have blooms of a violet to blue color. I chose to keep a simple palette when developing the colors.
